Such evolution has encouraged the transformation of the CFO from solely traditional tax functions to now include analysis of big data, technology systems, and efficiency strategies. This CFO Forum will tackle the top issues facing CFOs today including emerging tax and accounting strategies, CECL preparation, bank and core deposit valuation, enterprise risk, and more. Plus, be prepared to build your CFO network with plenty of networking opportunities available throughout the event.

Day 1 – 9:00am – 5:00pm

  • Tax Planning & Strategies - Emerging tax considerations including: Tax reform and the impact on banks’ earnings, balance sheet, and investment decisions. Benefits of acquiring tax credits. Use of REITs, investment subsidiaries and other strategies to reduce state taxes.
  • Big Data & Analytics - Learn about new trends and applications for big data in banking and how you can use data analytics to achieve your strategic objectives
  • Emerging Financial Reporting, Accounting, & Auditing Issues - Upcoming changes in financial reporting and their impact on financial institutions, including the following: financial instruments, leases, - revenue recognition, changes in cash flow presentation, simplification of goodwill impairment testing and improvements to employee share-based payment accounting
  • Purchase Accounting - Case study highlighting typical adjustments made for purchase accounting upon acquisition, as well as ongoing accounting required subsequent to the transaction. Included will be best practices for fair value measurement and documentation of the following: Loan portfolio, core deposit intangible, time deposits, borrowings and TruPS (subordinated debt).
  • Credit Issues & Your Bank’s Portfolio – Review emerging credit issues and identify top areas for banks to consider within their portfolios, including: Drivers of success, industry risk, impact of a rising rate environment, operational risk and due diligence. Also the impact that credit underwriting has on your bank’s loan portfolio, focusing on these topics: policy, underwriting practices and monitoring practices.
  • Portfolio Strategies for a Dynamic Rate Environment - Strategies that can create improved results from both net income and risk management standpoints, while allowing institutions to be well-positioned for the near future, including: characteristics of high performance investment portfolios, interest rate risk profiles for a community bank and portfolio needs, desired liquidity levels under dynamic rate environments, strategies based on the current yield curve and which investment strategies should perform best based on future curve expectations.

  • Regulatory Compliance - Areas that can cause enforcement actions, civil money penalties, consumer restitution, staffing issues, and impediments to acquiring other financial institutions as well as compliance areas to consider during a financial institution due diligence review.
  • Risk Management and Emerging Issues - Do you have an enterprise risk management (ERM) framework designed to identify, analyze, respond to and monitor potential risks facing your institution? Techniques to enhance and synchronize your existing risk assessment suite rather than reinventing your institution’s structural integrity. Also evaluating and monitoring ancillary risk components, assessing current strategic, operational, reporting and compliance objectives, aligning company objectives with ERM components and identifying gaps with company strategy and other objectives.
  • Valuation Trends & Core Deposits – Roundtable - Join us for an update on current valuation trends of publicly traded banks and bank transactions. We will also explore the difference between premiums paid for core deposits and the core deposit intangible and how a rising rate environment will impact both.
  • CECL Implementation – Roundtable - Accounting Standards Update (ASU) 2016-13, Financial Instruments–Credit Losses (Topic 326) Measurement of Credit Losses on Financial Instruments, supersedes today’s guidance and applies to all entities that hold financial assets not measured at fair value through net income. FASB has replaced today’s “incurred loss model” with an “expected credit loss model.” Entities will have flexibility to develop the methods to estimate and measure expected credit losses as long as they are appropriate, practical and consistent with the principles of the guidance.
