The business of marijuana is entering a new stage. The “legal” sale of cannabis continues to increase and, due to the 2016 elections, more states than ever have legalized marijuana in some form or fashion. The industry, however, struggles with an inability to access banking services. Bankers who were shell-shocked by Operation Choke Point are hesitant to consider another high-risk customer. Yet the marijuana industry offers the prospects of attractive returns.
This webinar will cover the coalescing views of state and federal law enforcement and regulators and the systems and procedures needed to consider banking this industry, with a particular emphasis on how regulators have been supervising institutions that bank cannabis businesses, as well as the direction of cannabis banking in the new Trump administration.
Major Topics:
- Views of state and federal law enforcement and regulators
- Systems and procedures needed to service the cannabis industry
- How regulators have been supervising banks that service a cannabis business
- Cannabis banking in the new Trump administration
